Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
