Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
