Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard about.
