NL Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he liked taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to compete in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he might improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and focus more on poker.

The actual improvement in his skills happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often play against each other. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
