Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
