NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
