NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
